Who Is The White Savior Of Dune is a 12-page zine that critically analyzes Frank Herbert’s Dune Chronicles in its various incarnations. Upon release of Dune (2021), the series has undergone vast changes from both the older movie, Dune (1984), and the original novel from 1965. This zine evaluates and contextualize criticisms that claim the series has a “white savior narrative” (Cole 2012) by rationalizing Herbert’s original intentions with the movie directors’ visions as well as changing sociopolitical climates. The zine ultimately attempts to identify the different layers of this complex issue as fairly as possible.
