Seminar: Black Letters (ENGL 4008)

Hold Strong, I Love You is an exploration of grief, love, and joy through Andaiye’s letters to Audre Lorde during their final years of fighting cancer. This zine spans 12 pages, and attempts to analyze the letter form both visually and textually. All graphic elements are taken from Andaiye’s letters, yet none remain in their original form; these changes help exemplify the contextual messages that a letter conveys, beyond the written word.
